At present there is no common understanding or a common concept of modern art of the young generation, working actively in the first decades of the 21st century. Currently there exist no methods of interdisciplinary analysis, which could help detect directions of possible cooperation between the cultures of China, Russia and the United States. Due to differences in the setup of scientific communities of these countries, there exists no common cross-disciplinary terminology, a common paradigm for development and interaction of arts, or common awareness of cultural or political trends. Additionally, there is no database of modern artists that could be studied and become a foundation for scientific dialog.“21st Century Art as New Knowledge in Humanities. China. Russia. USA” Conference is a part of a major project “China. Russia. USA. Three Poles of the Multipolar World.” The goal of the conference is to define characteristic directions in the art of three countries and highlight the works of the new generation of American, Russian and Chinese authors who grew up in the changing world of the early 21st century where diverse religions, worldviews, national traditions and values do not prevent people from crossing borders, and creating a common history of mutual responsibility in the pursuit of freedom.
Convergence, not divergence of civilizations is what is important for the contemporary humankind, and the same principle lies at the foundation of humanitarian knowledge. Comprehending the present-day trends in culture is of tremendous significance for education in Russia, China, and the US. Synthesizing historical, cultural, artistic and comparative approaches, the conference brings together scholars of different countries who deal with globalization problems, issues of mutual influence of cultures in universities and museums of China, Russia and the US, and seeks to develop contacts and cooperation in various spheres of art, science and education. This is the first instance of creating a single cultural space where artists of a new generation will underscore their unique identities and common things that bring them together. This generation will challenge the modernity by creating their own sense and view of the 21st century.
