Artistic Development of the Historic Past and Sites of Commemoration. Historical Events in Russia through Literary Works as the Generational Bridge

12:00 — 13:30
General Staff Building 6/8 Palace sq., St. Petersburg

What is more important — the narrative of an art work author/chronicler of an important historical event or the historical event itself in the context of the literary evidence? How shall a contemporary perceive historical prose — following the chronology of the happening events or following the logic of creating literary works, taking into account the socio-political narrative of the country's development? What is the significance of historical events and literary works now — the classics of literature, its outstanding basis, for the modern reader, and other topics.

Presentation of the collected works "Russian Historical Prose" — the second edition of the "Presidential Historical Library" project, prepared by the Russian Historical Society and the "Eksmo-AST" Publishing Group, and supported by the President of the Russian Federation V. V. Putin. The works included in the volumes of "Russian Historical Prose" were published at the end of the 18th century, in the 19th, 20th and early 21st centuries. The Presidential Historical Library project was launched in 2018 under the auspices of the Russian Historical Society. Commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory, a five-volume edition of the "Victory Library" series was created, which included two volumes of prose, one volume of poetry, one volume of drama and one volume of journalism.
