Manege Central Exhibition Hall is to host a symposium as part of the VIII St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum entitled The Red Arrow. Soviet Art — A Look from the Future. The event will bring together XX-century art historians and curators of some of the biggest exhibitions of Soviet art for a discussion on the effect of state ideology on art, and the perception of "totalitarian" art in democratic countries. They will also share their experience of exhibiting Soviet art in Europe and Asia. This will be the fifth time that Manege will have hosted a symposium on important issues related to XX‑century art.
The symposium will take place on the eve of the opening of a major new exhibition — Deineka/Samokhvalov, featuring the work of two outstanding Soviet-era painters and marking the 120th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Deineka.
