Tolerance — an Art of Communications or a New Form of Censorship?

12:30 — 14:00
General Staff Building 6/8 Palace sq., St. Petersburg

November 16 — International Tolerance Day established by UNESCO in 1996. On the eve of the anniversary, we are discussing how the main word of social movements of the 21st century is reflected in contemporary art, affects the art industry and society as a whole.

Issues for discussion:

  • Mass communications. How have #metoo, #blacklivesmatter and other social movements changed the media agenda? How are these movements used in political, cultural and corporate communication? What ethical challenges does this pose?
  • Cancel culture and society segmentation: how much does it "cost" to be "disagreeing"?
  • Art market. How are grassroots equality movements changing the art market?
  • Art. Should the art be tolerant?
