Born May 27, 1961 in Leningrad in a family of architects. He received the Sacrament of Baptism in Pskov in 1977.
In 1979, he graduated from the High School of Art, in 1985 — from the Faculty of Architecture of the I. Y. Repin Institute of Art, Sculpture and Architecture.
In 1990, he completed the postgraduate studies at the I. Y. Repin Institute of Art, Sculpture and Architecture also defending his thesis for the Candidate of Architectural Sciences degree.
In 1990, he took monastic vows at the St. Petersburg Theological Academy and the Theological Seminary and was ordained deacon and priest.
He graduated externally from the St. Petersburg Theological Seminary in 1993.
Since 1988, he has been teaching at the St. Petersburg Orthodox Theological Academy and at the same time at the I. Y. Repin Institute of Art, Sculpture and Architecture of the Russian Academy of Arts.
Having graduated externally from the Theological Academy in 2006, he defended his thesis and received the Candidate of Theological Sciences degree.
Rector of the Imperial Memorial Peter and Paul Cathedral and the Church of St. Cathrine at the Academy of Arts, head of the Icon Painting Department and the Church and Archaeology Museum of the St. Petersburg Orthodox Theological Academy, professor at the I. Y. Repin Institute of Art, Sculpture and Architecture of the Russian Academy of Arts., chairman of the St. Petersburg Eparchial Commission for Architecture and Art.
Author of books: Figurative and Symbolic System of Composition of an Old Russian City (1999); Church Art as a Spatial and Visual Complex (2007) and others, as well as many publications.
