Alexander teaches courses "Music Informatics" and "Music and information systems" (theoretical lectures, practical classes); he has published a number of textbooks on courses (in 2000, 2009, 2010, a volume of 15–25 pages per issue). Annually conducts the author's course "Computer methods of sound analysis in musicology" at the Faculty of Continuing Education of the Moscow State Conservatory.
He graduated from the Moscow Electro-Technical Institute of Communications (now Moscow Technical University of Communications and Informatics) with a degree in Radio Engineering. Since 2002 — Associate Professor of music theory of MSC (part-time), since 2010 — Associate Professor of music and information technology (Head of the Department) of the Moscow State Conservatory. Since 1994, he has been developing computer programs for analyzing the characteristics of musical sound (SPAX program was registered in Rospatent in 2005, YourVoice — in 2010). More than 100 articles have been published on the results of research on academic and traditional music phonograms. Author of the book "Computer Analysis of Sound in Music Science" (2015). The main areas of his scientific interests are Computer Science and Computer Methods of Sound Analysis in Musicology.
