Alexandra Nenko

Head of the Urban Life Quality Laboratory, QULLAB.
Candidate of Sociology, Research Associate Professor of the Institute of Design and Urban Studies in the St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Head of the Master's Programs of the Institute of Design and Urban Studies in the St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies "City Development Management" and "Urban Projects and Urban Design".

With 13-year teaching experience, currently supervises 10 master students and 1 postgraduate student, has more than 6 training courses dedicated to urban concepts, applied research of urban environment, analysis and social design of public spaces in her portfolio.

She has more than 30 publications, including 16 articles in the Scopus and Web of Science, and currently is the head of research projects supported by the Russian Foundation for Fundamental Research (RFFI), the Russian Science Foundation and the KONE Foundation. She heads the Creativity, Communities and Public Spaces in Germany, Europe and Russia section in the Center for Studies of Germany and Europe of St. Petersburg State University, is an expert in the Creative Practices Foundation and the Gazprom Neft "Home Towns" Foundation, a member of the independent expert platform "Open Urban Lab".

In 2015–2018, Aleksandra Nenko headed the international ARTS4CITY project dedicated to developing urban culture in St. Petersburg. In various years, she has been a member of the program and organizing committees of international scientific conferences, forums and competitions, such as "Digital Transformations in the Global Society", "Networks in the Global World", "Electronic Governance and Open Society: Challenges in Eurasia", "International Spatial Development Forum", "Urban Awards", "Cultural Footprint".

In her applied projects, Aleksandra Nenko cooperates with partners representing both the Administration of Saint Petersburg: the Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture, the Committee for Landscaping, the Committee for Tourism Development, and business structures and expert organizations: the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, the Italian Cultural Institute of St. Petersburg, the Goethe-Institute, the Danish Cultural Institute in St. Petersburg, the Dobry Gorod Petersburg Charity Foundation, the Scientific Research Institute of Perspective Urban Development, the Center for Strategic Research "North-West".

Aleksandra and her team run projects dedicated to the analysis of urban culture and the quality of urban life, public spaces and creative industries, emotional perception of urban space, the participatory approach to designing urban spaces, and use these results in consulting and supporting applied projects for the humanization of urban environment.
