Cathelijne is the director of the Hermitage Amsterdam museum and De Nieuwe Kerk since 1 November 2011.
Prior to this position she was in charge of the organization and financial department of the Hermitage Amsterdam & De Nieuwe Kerk (international exhibition centre in Amsterdam) as the deputy director for the last 10 years. She was involved by the development of the Hermitage Amsterdam since the very beginning and which resulted in the opening of the museum in 2009. The Hermitage Amsterdam counts almost 5 million visits in the first 10 years. Cathelijne Broers is graduated as an Art historian in 1994 and had several jobs in the cultural field in the Netherlands and abroad. In 2001 she graduated as master in Business administration. She has a wide experience in museum organization, making temporarily exhibitions with prominent museums worldwide. Because the Hermitage Amsterdam is an private initiative and not a state funded museum she is experienced in realizing sponsorships for the cultural programming of the Hermitage Amsterdam. Important Dutch multinationals like Heineken, ABN AMRO and Fugro are involved in the business development of the Hermitage Amsterdam.
