Distinguished Worker of Arts of the Russian Federation, member of the Public Council of the Russian Jewish Congress. Works actively in theatre and film. Specializes in psychological dramas. Has directed more than 40 theatre shows. The director's list of films includes 29 titles.
In 2011 made his acting debut in Vysotsky. Thank You For Keeping Me Alive. For this role, Mr. Astrakhan was awarded the Nika–2012 Prize in the category “Discovery of the Year.” Won the Golden Eagle prize as the Best Actor in a Supporting Role (End of the Marvelous Era, 2016).
Currently he is directing the film The Fate of a Raider (Belarusfilm / Lenfilm), which is scheduled for release in 2020.
