Hubertus Gaßner (born 1950 in Frankfurt/Main), art historian and curator, author and editor of numerous art historical publications.
After studies in art history, philosophy and sociology in Marburg, Heidelberg, Munich and Hamburg, he was an active member of the Neue Gesellschaft für Bildende Kunst (NGBK), Berlin, where he organized numerous exhibitions. Dissertation 1982 on Russian constructivism. Assistant professor for art history at the Kunsthochschule Kassel from 1981 to 1991. Head of the documental — Archive in Kassel 1989–1992.Chief curator at the Haus der Kunst in Munich from 1993 to 2002 and director of the Museum Folkwang in Essen from 2002 to 2005. Since 2006 until September 2016, Hubertus Gaßner was director of the Hamburger Kunsthalle.
