Doctor of Art History. Full Member of the Russian Academy of Arts. Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation. Laureate of three State Prizes of the Russian Federation. Full Cavalier of the Order of Merit to the Fatherland.
She graduated from the Lomonosov Moscow State University with a degree in Art History and straight after graduation started working in the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts. In 1961–2003 she was a Director of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, and in 2013 she became a President of the Museum. She organized such large-scale exhibitions as 'Moscow — Paris', 'Moscow — Berlin', 'Russia — Italy', 'Modigliani', 'Turner', 'Picasso', etc. in the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts. In 1981 she became a co-founder of the annual December Nights Festival of Music and Painting held in the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts.
