Ivaylo Petrov was born on October 6, 1948. Bulgarian by nationality. Member of the Union of Russian Writers, Member of the Union of Bulgarian Scientists, Member of the Bulgarian Society of Scholars of Russian. Editor-in-Chief, “Russian Studies in Bulgaria” Journal. Deputy Chairman of the Society of Russian Scholars in Bulgaria.

Professor, Candidate of Philological Sciences. Graduated from: Sofia University, “St. Kliment Ohridski,” Constantine of Preslav University of Shumen, graduate school at Zhdanov Leningrad State University. Taught at universities of Shumen, Plovdiv and Veliko Tyrnovo. From 1972 to 2016 — Professor of History of Russian Literature of the 20th century in Constantine of Preslav University of Shumen (Bulgaria). Author of a dissertation, a monograph and many articles dedicated to the work of V. M. Shukshin. Member of the Board, “Filologicheskie Nauki”, “Literaturnye Znakomstva” and “Otechestvennye Zapiski” journals. Since 2017, Chairman of the Board, Sts. Cyril and Methodius International Writers Union. Member of the Scientific Society of Krasnodar State University. Director, Axios — Shumen Publishing House. Coordinator of Days of Russian Culture in Varna Region (1998–2018).
