Julio was born in Mexico City. During the last 10 years, he has been working at El Universal, the most influential newspaper in Mexico and whose website is the most popular news site in the country. Here, he coordinates multimedia cultural and scientific contents and also edits the cultural section on paper and digital, and the sunday supplement Confabulario.

Previously, he held the same position in different newspapers, such as El Independiente, Diario Monitor and Excélsior, and in the mexican edition of the magazine Cambio, under the direction of Gabriel García Márquez.

Furthermore, he has developed several projects in cultural television as a scriptwriter and producer, including the documentary series “Gente como nosotros” (People like Us), on TVunam, broadcast on the television of the country's largest university, and has been a host and producer of the Confabulario tv program.

As a cultural journalist, his research papers have been published in various national publications, such as Letras Libres, Reforma and La Jornada.

He holds two undergraduate degrees: the first in Journalism and the other in Hispanic Literature.

He has been a fellowship by the National Council for Culture and the Arts of Mexico.
