Born in the city of Hilden (North Rhine-Westphalia) in 1969. In 1995, he graduated from the Faculty of Architecture in Berlin, after which he received his professional education in Zurich focusing on the theory and history of architecture. He is actively engaged in curatorial activities and journalism. In 1996, together with Natascha Meuser, he co-founded the architectural workshop Meuser Architekten BDA in Berlin.

In 2005, he founded the German publishing house Dom Publishers specializing in the research in architecture, urban studies, and design. Many authors engaged by the publishing house study the history of architecture and urban planning of the USSR. He is the co-author of the book Development of Eurasian Cities.
