Born in 1974 in Ufa.
He graduated from the University of Bridgeport (USA) with a Bachelor's Degree in Management/Industrial Relations and subsequently an MBA in Finance.
Throughout his investment banking career, he held management positions at leading Russian and foreign financial institutions: Lehman Brothers, Nomura, Unicredit, VTB.
Currently acts as an Advisor to the CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).
Mr. Karimov is member of the Board of the Russian Copper Company, one of the largest and the fastest growing companies in the nonferrous metallurgy in the Russian Federation.
Since 2015, he is the Chairman of the Plyos City Council.
Plyos is a unique city area on the Volga river that has been preserved due to meticulous work aimed at preservation of its historical heritage, its natural landscape and cultural environment.
Mr. Karimov has founded several charities:
The Mustai Karim Foundation supports projects dedicated to the development of culture and traditions of the Bashkir language and literature;
Traditions and Culture Foundation to support and promote domestic cultural initiatives in Russia and abroad;
House of National Literatures Foundation (together with the Maxim Gorky Literature Institute) aimed at studying, preserving and promoting multilingual literature of Russia and literary translations from languages of the people of the Russian Federation.
Mr. Karimov was honored with the Commendation of the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation (2017), a Commendation of the President of the Russian Federation (2018), and a Certificate of Merit of the Federal Tourism Agency (2018).
In 2018 he was awarded with the Order of the Star of Italy (Commander Class) for his contribution to strengthening cultural relations between Italy and Russia.
In 2018, by decree of the President of the Russian Federation, he was awarded with the Order of Friendship for his ‘active efforts for preservation, augmentation and popularization of the cultural and historical heritage of Russia’.
